The civic association (OZ) Vrbovčan was established in 2016. Its aim is to revive the cultural and social life of the Vrbovec district inhabitants. For its activities, it uses the building of the former kindergarten, which is going to be rebuild into the community center. All with the help of the public and the city management.

The school was founded after careful consideration of the need to establish this type of school in Košice. The basic motive for the establishment was to provide parents with a choice in the education of their children with a diagnosis that fundamentally affects the overall functioning of their lives. Experience shows that integration between the intact population in regular primary school classes is not always the most acceptable solution.

The pupils of the school are primarily children diagnosed with autism and other pervasive developmental disorders without mental disabilities / Asperger's syndrome, HFA, Atypical autism and others /.
